Sportingbet.com.au – Collingwood V Carlton

Posted by admin @ 12:00 AM, Thursday May 28th, 2009

Sportingbet.com.au Mick Malthouse’s assertion that his Collingwood team was in the contest until the last five minutes against Carlton on Sunday is as puzzling as it is ridiculous.

The coach needs to be positive, but not unrealistic.

Some would argue the game was over at the 15-minute mark of first term. The Magpies, beset by injuries, kicked just one goal in the first-half and trailed by 45 points at the final change.

When you kick three goals in 90 minutes of football, you are not going to retrieve a 45-point deficit in 30 minutes. Someone should have told Mick that.

We all acknowledge Collingwood’s list of injuries. But the coach’s latest statement shows he is under pressure. He won’t admit it, but the latest speculation surrounding Nathan Buckley being the next coach at Collingwood is affecting the wily campaigner.

In truth, the Magpies were smashed for the second week in succession and were never in the game. They now sit at 3-5.

Malthouse, with all his experience, though, attempted to deflect the attention from the heavy loss and paint the picture that his side was competitive.

A 51-point final margin is not competitive, despite the list of absentees. And that was with a five-goal-to-four final term – Collingwood’s best quarter of the game.

It’s fine to say his team was beaten by a better side, but Mick needs to treat us with a little more respect next time. He surely could not truly believe what he said – otherwise his time might be up.

Centrebet – Brumbiews Campaign Update

Posted by admin @ 12:00 AM, Thursday May 28th, 2009

Centrebet.com.au: The ACT Brumbies Super 14s campaign is officially over for another year following a heartbreaking (and albeit narrow) loss to competition leaders the Chiefs in Waikato on Friday night.

The Brumbies were sitting fifth on the ladder behind the Crusaders going into the final round of the Super 14s regular season before the play offs get underway and realistically needed a bonus point victory against the highly fancied Chiefs who have been almost unbeatable at home in Hamilton this year.

In an error riddled first half the scores were locked at nil all in the thirtieth minute when an error from the Chiefs winger (who failed to ground the ball in goal) saw the Brumbies pinch a try which Stirling Mortlock converted to gove the Brumbies a handy seven point buffer.

However the Chiefs responded just three minutes later to have the scores locked at seven all leading into the half time break.

The heavens opened after half time which did nothing for the players skill level as the Chiefs could not convert weight of possession into points and clearly should have run away with the game after a yellow card to the Brumbies saw them down to 14 men.

The resulting penalty was converted to give the Chiefs 10 – 7 lead and that’s the way the score remained when the final siren blew.

To add insult to injury, the Brumbies had a chance to form a lineout just metres from the Chiefs line to set up a scoring chance and snatch victory only to fail with the touch finder just seconds out from the final whistle.

AFL Update

Posted by admin @ 12:00 AM, Thursday May 28th, 2009

AFL - Usually placing a wager on the AFL’s reigning premier in almost any fixture during the season is a safe bet. But Hawthorn, so far this season, have provided ecstasy for bookmakers and agony for punters.

Its loss to Essendon in Round 7 should have been the final straw for many. The Hawks also failed against Port Adelaide (at the MCG) in Round 4. On both occasions, many would have been worse off.

But are the Hawks to blame? Their long-list of injuries was always going to hurt them early in the season. And early in the season, upsets occur more regularly. Yours truly is one of many who thought the Hawks were a monty to defeat the Bombers and the Power.

If you place your cash on the Hawks again, and they lose, you only have yourself to blame. History is a great teacher in sports betting, so steer clear of the Hawks. The Saints are purring, the Dogs are working up to their best and Geelong just doesn’t look like losing a game.

If you are taking part in an AFL accumulator, don’t bet on the patched–up Hawks until, at least, after the mid-season break. By then, their players should be in-form and back from injury. They are not worth the risk. Go for the Saints and the Cats, or the Power or Brisbane Lions at home. On most occasions, they will provide the desired outcome. The Hawks have had their three chances and, for now, they should be out.

NRL Update: Geelong Cats V St Kilda Saints

Posted by admin @ 12:00 AM, Thursday May 28th, 2009

The Geelong Cats and the St Kilda Saints look set for a top of the table show down which could be the game of the season and rival last year’s show down between the Hawks and the cats which didn’t disappoint fans.

Both teams are still undefeated with St Kilda taking top spot honours with an incredible percentage of over two hundred which is arguably one of the best starts to a season in the games long history.

After thrashing the magpies in the return to Monday night football, the Saints backed up just six days later against a hot and cold Essendon outfit that managed to give the Saints one of their toughest tests of the season.

The game went for all four quarters before the Saints kicked away in the final term, their running through the midfield proving the difference.

A depleted North Melbourne had the unenviable task of travelling to Skilled Stadium to take on the Cats and they were (for want of better words) mauled by a rampant Cats outfit that is still without red hot Brownlow favourite Gary Ablett.

Despite a brave showing from the Kangaroos in the first quarter, Geelong piled on the goals before the main change and ran away with the match to win by over ten goals.

In a first for the AFL since 2002, Andrew Dimetriou has voiced plans to move the round 14 fixture from Etihad Stadium to the MCG in order to accommodate the extra forty thousand fans who are likely to turn out to see them go head to head.

Posted by admin @ 12:00 AM, Monday May 18th, 2009

It seems that the emerging trend for sports betting at CentreBet.com.au in Australia today and indeed around the world has made a shift away from the more traditional form of betting that involves spending Saturday afternoons at the TAB toward that of online betting.

There are quite literally thousands of companies right around the world that offer punters the option of betting on live sports and racing without ever leaving the comfort of the home or office.

Not only can CentreBet members bet on the outcomes of the more traditional gambling oriented sport of racing, but almost every sport and sporting fixtures going on right around the globe.

Although most sites are still heavily racing oriented, they now attract a far more diverse spectrum of punters by offering thousands of betting options on everything from athletics to yachting and more.

Even TAB who still boast thousands of betting agencies and outlets right around the nation made the move early toward online betting after their foray into phone betting and TAB accounts proved successful.

Traditional betting on sports and racing tends to be just that whereas online betting sites offer punters competitions, bonuses, reimbursements and other flashy gimmicks that make punting less one dimensional. To bet on NRL has become an even greater experience online as betting becomes more competitive.

Agencies such as Sportsbet and CentreBet.com.au now also make up a hefty proportion of sponsorship for metropolitan and provincial races and it certainly looks like these, and other similar agencies, are her to stay for the long haul.
