AFL - Usually placing a wager on the AFL’s reigning premier in almost any fixture during the season is a safe bet. But Hawthorn, so far this season, have provided ecstasy for bookmakers and agony for punters.

Its loss to Essendon in Round 7 should have been the final straw for many. The Hawks also failed against Port Adelaide (at the MCG) in Round 4. On both occasions, many would have been worse off.

But are the Hawks to blame? Their long-list of injuries was always going to hurt them early in the season. And early in the season, upsets occur more regularly. Yours truly is one of many who thought the Hawks were a monty to defeat the Bombers and the Power.

If you place your cash on the Hawks again, and they lose, you only have yourself to blame. History is a great teacher in sports betting, so steer clear of the Hawks. The Saints are purring, the Dogs are working up to their best and Geelong just doesn’t look like losing a game.

If you are taking part in an AFL accumulator, don’t bet on the patched–up Hawks until, at least, after the mid-season break. By then, their players should be in-form and back from injury. They are not worth the risk. Go for the Saints and the Cats, or the Power or Brisbane Lions at home. On most occasions, they will provide the desired outcome. The Hawks have had their three chances and, for now, they should be out.
